A music flip chart is a simple but powerful tool to help Primary children learn a new song! It’s a set of large pages—either printed or digital—that display the lyrics in a way that’s easy to follow. Many flip charts also include pictures or symbols to help reinforce the meaning of the words, making it easier for kids to remember and connect with the message.
As you lead music time, you can flip through the pages as the song progresses, helping the children focus on the words without feeling overwhelmed. Flip charts are especially helpful when introducing a brand-new song or when kids need a little extra support with tricky lyrics.
This month, my kids and I will be focusing on the Primary song, “Dare to Do Right”, as encouraged by Come, Follow Me.

Other Ideas for Teaching this Song
Teaching “Dare to Do Right” in a fun and engaging way can help Primary children connect with the message and remember the words more easily! Here are some creative ideas beyond flip charts:
Actions & Movement
- Sign Language or Hand Motions: Teach simple ASL signs for key words like dare, right, wrong, choose, courage to help reinforce the meaning.
- Action Cues: Assign different movements to key phrases (e.g., standing tall for “Dare to be true”, pointing forward for “Follow the light”).
- Follow the Leader: Let a child lead the class in actions while everyone else follows.
Visual & Hands-On Activities
- Picture Puzzle: Print or draw images representing phrases from the song. Have children put them in order as they learn each line.
- Word Scramble: Write key phrases on large pieces of paper or a whiteboard and mix them up. Let the kids rearrange them in the correct order.
- Object Lesson: Show a flashlight or candle when singing “Follow the light”, emphasizing how light represents truth and courage.
Interactive Singing Games
- Echo Singing: Divide the group and have one side sing a line, then the other side echoes it.
- “Missing Words” Game: Write the lyrics on the board and gradually erase words while the children continue singing.
- Pass the Mic: Use a pretend microphone (or real one if available) and let children take turns singing solo phrases.
Adventure & Storytelling
- Courage Stories: Share a short story about a child or scripture figure (e.g., Daniel, Abinadi, or Captain Moroni) who dared to do right.
- Choose the Right Path: Create a simple maze or obstacle course where kids must “choose the right” path to reach a goal.
Challenges & Rewards
- Dare Cards: Write challenges on cards (e.g., “Sing the next line in a whisper” or “Sing while standing on one foot”). Kids pick a card and do the challenge while singing.
- Team Sing-Off: Divide the Primary into two groups and have a friendly competition to see which side sings the strongest or most reverently.
