2 Nephi 1

2 And he spake unto them concerning their rebellions upon the waters, and the mercies of God in sparing their lives, that they were not swallowed up in the sea.

Activity Ideas:


Boat Craft

  • Materials Needed:

    • Cardboard Paper

    • Crayons or markers

    • Craft sticks

    • Scissors

    • Glue

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the scripture about the mercies of God in sparing the lives of Nephi's family while inside the boat. Discuss moments in your life when you've seen God's mercy and blessings.

  2. Encourage toddlers to decorate paper plates as boats using crayons or markers.

  3. Attach craft sticks on the back of the colored and cut out picture


Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 1-2 Come Follow Me

Water Play

  • Materials Needed:

    • Plastic containers or a small kiddie pool

    • Toy boats

    • Water

  • Activity:

  1. Set up a water play area with containers or a kiddie pool.

  2. Discuss the scripture as toddlers play with toy boats in the water.

  3. Emphasize the importance of listening and obeying to stay safe in the water. Share how you've felt safe while listening and obeying Heavenly Father's commandments.


Mercy Collage

  • Materials Needed:

    • Magazines or printed pictures

    • Glue

    • Paper or cardboard

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the concept of God's mercy in protecting and blessing us.

  2. Help toddlers create a collage by gluing pictures that represent acts of kindness and mercy onto paper, poster board, or cardboard.

3 And he also spake unto them concerning the land of promise, which they had obtained—how merciful the Lord had been in warning us that we should flee out of the land of Jerusalem.

Activity Ideas:


Map Exploration

  • Materials Needed:

    • Large paper or cardboard

    • Markers or crayons

    • Stickers or pictures representing the land of promise

  • Activity:

  1. Create a simple map on a large piece of paper or cardboard.

  2. Discuss the scripture about the land of promise and God's mercy.

  3. Help toddlers place stickers or pictures on the map to represent the journey from Jerusalem to the promised land.


Act it Out

  • Materials Needed:

    • Pretend play costumes (simple robes or scarves)

    • Safe play area

  • Activity:

  1. Talk about the scripture and how the Lord warned people to flee from Jerusalem.

  2. Encourage toddlers to engage in dramatic play, pretending to "flee" to a safe area.


Building the Promised Land

  • Materials Needed:

    • Building blocks or playdough

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the scripture about obtaining the land of promise.

  2. Encourage toddlers to use building blocks or playdough to construct their version of the promised land.


9 Wherefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise, that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments, they shall prosper upon the face of this land; and they shall be kept from all other nations, that they may possess this land unto themselves. And if it so be that they shall keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall be none to molest them, nor to take away the land of their inheritance; and they shall dwell safely forever.

Activity Ideas:


Commandment Sorting:

  • Materials Needed:

    • Images or cards representing commandments

    • Two baskets or containers labeled "Keep" and "Don't Keep"

  • Activity:

  1. Talk about the importance of keeping commandments.

  2. Show toddlers images or cards with simple commandments and encourage them to sort them into the appropriate baskets.


Blessings and Challenges Drawing:

  • Materials Needed:

    • Paper

    • Markers or crayons

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the blessings mentioned in the scripture and the concept of keeping commandments.

  2. Have toddlers draw pictures of blessings and challenges they may face when trying to keep commandments.


"Prosper Upon the Face of the Land" Fort Building:

  • Materials Needed:

    • Blankets

  • Activity:

  1. Together with your child, build a fort

  2. While building, discuss how Heavenly Father helped the Nephites prosper and thrive in the land as they kept the commandments and obeyed God

  3. Share with them times you've been blessed because you obeyed God and His commandments.


15 But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.

Circle of Love:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Colored paper

  • Glue

  • Child-safe scissors

  • Activity:

  1. Talk about being encircled eternally in the arms of God's love.

  2. Help toddlers cut out colorful paper strips and glue them together in a circular shape to represent the eternal circle of God's love.


Sing "I Am A Child of God" together


Dance of Love:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Music player

  • Activity:

  1. Play music and encourage toddlers to dance freely.

  2. Use scarves or ribbons to create a circle dance, symbolizing being encircled in God's love.


Sensory Experience:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Soft fabrics or blankets

  • Comfortable seating area

  • Activity:

  1. Create a cozy sensory space using soft fabrics.

  2. Talk about the warmth and comfort of being encircled in God's love as toddlers explore the sensory environment.


23 Awake, my sons; put on the armor of righteousness. Shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and come forth out of obscurity, and arise from the dust.

Armor of Righteousness Dress-Up:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Cardboard

  • Aluminum foil

  • Fabric or old clothes for belts

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the concept of putting on the armor of righteousness.

  2. Help toddlers create simple armor pieces using cardboard and aluminum foil.

  3. Let them put on their "righteous armor" and engage in a pretend play adventure.


Shaking Off Chains Sensory Play:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Plastic chains (toy or craft chains)

  • Large container or box filled with soft materials (e.g., cotton balls)

  1. Explain the idea of shaking off the chains of sin.

  2. Provide toddlers with plastic chains and encourage them to shake them off into a soft container, symbolizing freedom from chains.


Arise from the Dust Art:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Construction paper

  • Glue

  • Cotton or sand

  • Activity:

  1. Talk about arising from the dust and leaving behind old habits.

  2. Have toddlers create artwork by gluing cotton or sand onto construction paper, symbolizing the dust and rising above it.


Obstacle Course Adventure:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Pillows

  • Soft play mats or carpets

  • Activity:

  1. Set up a simple obstacle course with pillows and soft mats.

  2. Guide toddlers through the course, emphasizing the idea of coming forth out of obscurity and arising from the dust.


24 Rebel no more against your brother, whose views have been glorious, and who hath kept the commandments from the time that we left Jerusalem; and who hath been an instrument in the hands of God, in bringing us forth into the land of promise; for were it not for him, we must have perished with hunger in the wilderness; nevertheless, ye sought to take away his life; yea, and he hath suffered much sorrow because of you.

Thankful Hearts Activity:

30 And now, Zoram, I speak unto you: Behold, thou art the servant of Laban; nevertheless, thou hast been brought out of the land of Jerusalem, and I know that thou art a true friend unto my son, Nephi, forever.

Friendship Bracelets:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Pipe cleaners or yarn

  • Beads

  • Activity:

  1. Talk to toddlers about being good friends, just like Zoram was a true friend to Nephi.

  2. Create friendship bracelets together using pipe cleaners or yarn and colorful beads.


Friendship Collage:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Magazines or printed images

  • Glue

  • Poster board or paper

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the qualities of a good friend.

  2. Help toddlers create a friendship collage by gluing images or pictures that represent friendship onto a poster board.


 

2 Nephi 2


7 Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.

Sacrifice of Love Craft:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Paper

  • Crayons or markers

  • Stickers (heart shapes)

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss Jesus Christ's sacrifice and how it was an act of love

  2. Help toddlers create a "Sacrifice of Love" craft by drawing or decorating hearts on paper.


Heartfelt Prayer:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Simple prayer visuals (pictures of folded hands)

  • Activity:

  1. Introduce the concept of prayer as a way to express a contrite spirit.

  2. Encourage toddlers to fold their hands and say a simple, heartfelt prayer together.

11 For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad.   • Activity:

  1. Talk about opposites like colors (red/blue) or shapes (circle/square).

  2. Invite toddlers to sort objects into pairs of opposites and place them in two baskets.


Nature Opposites Hunt:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Nature items (leaves, stones)

  • Small baskets or bags

  • Activity:

  1. Go on a nature walk and collect items that represent opposites (smooth/rough, light/dark).

  2. Discuss the opposites as you explore nature together.


Opposite Movement Game:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Music

  • Activity:

  1. Play music and encourage toddlers to move in opposite ways (jump up and then sit down, move forward and then backward).

  2. Make it a fun and interactive dance session.


25 Adam fell that men might be; and men care, that they might have joy.

Fall and Rise Play:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Soft cushions or pillows

  • Activity:

  1. Create a soft play area with cushions.

  2. Encourage toddlers to "fall" onto the cushions and then "rise" again, emphasizing the concept of falling and rising. Liken it to the Fall and the Atonement.


Joyful Art:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Paints, markers, or crayons

  • Paper

  • Activity:

  1. Discuss the concept of joy.

  2. Let toddlers create joyful art, expressing happiness through colors and shapes.


27 Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and call things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.

Sorting Activity: Good Choices vs. Bad Choices

  • Materials Needed:

  • Pictures or objects representing good and bad choices

  • Two baskets or containers

  • Activity:

  1. Show pictures or objects symbolizing good and bad choices to toddlers.

  2. Let them sort and place each item into the appropriate basket, discussing why each choice is good or bad.

  • Puppets

  • Small props or pictures representing choices

  • Activity:

  1. Use puppets to act out scenarios where characters make different choices.

  2. Discuss with toddlers what the characters could have chosen differently.


Choosing Paths:

  • Materials Needed:

  • Chalk or tape

  • Outdoor space

  • Activity:

  1. Create paths using chalk or tape on the ground.

  2. Let toddlers walk along the paths, discussing the idea of choosing the right path.


Role Playing - Making Decisions:
