Young Women Fundraiser Idea for Girl's Camp - Talent Auction

Updated: Jan 19

If you're looking for a fun and simple fundraiser to put together for your youth this year, check out this Talent Auction Idea!

The Activity:

This first part will probably take the most preparation. To start, you'll need to talk to each of the youth in your ward and find out what he/she is good at. This could be anything from painting, crafting, or photography to baking cookies, mowing the lawn, or babysitting. It doesn't matter if it's a service that they can offer or a finished product like a pie or print, both will work.

If you don't have enough youth in the ward or you're wanting to have more expertise joining in, feel free to reach out to any ward or community members that would be willing to offer something for free.

Once you've gotten a pretty good list of services and products you could offer, start planning the auction.

Planning:

First things first, reserve the Cultural Hall, you're gonna need the space.

Next, have the youth help you set up chairs, all facing in a similar direction.

Find someone in your presidency or ward that can be the auctioneer, and make sure you've got all the services and products listed for them to easily read. You'll also need another person to be a note-taker throughout the night. This person will be the one to write down who had the highest bid for each round.

Have a table set up, either inside the cultural hall on the side, or right outside the cultural hall. This is the check-in table. The people here will be responsible for:

  • Exchanging tickets for money or canned food (if that's the route you'd like to go)

  • Assigning each person their number card

It's super important you keep a list of who has which number so designate one of the people at that check in table to just do that.

The number cards really could be anything the people in the auction could hold up if they're wanting to bid. Most auctions have paddles but if we don't want to go hunting for that many, you could use card-stock (and even shape them like paddles if you'd like) or paper plates with Popsicle sticks. It all depends on how much work you'd like to put into it beforehand, or how much you have in your budget.

The most difficult part of this activity is going to be getting people to come. I'd recommend opening this to the ward members, stake members, and even people in the community. If you do open it to the community, I highly recommend inviting the missionaries to have a booth of some kind on the side throughout the event so they can meet new people, or if the community members have any questions about our church.

Ways to Spread the Word:

Spend some time making a flyer. Once that's done, share that flyer amongst your ward through:

  • Circles App

  • Ward Facebook Groups/Pages

  • Newsletters

  • Ward Announcements

  • Auxiliary Announcements

Then once you've got all your ward members on board, you could shoot it to your Stake friends either through the YW/YM Presidencies or to the Stake Secretary.

When you're ready to throw it out into the community, here are some of the best tactics we've used.

  1. Post it on your Social Media and invite others to share the post as well.

  2. Post them in your community buy/sell groups. If you aren't currently in any, just join some by searching for your community in Facebook Groups and joining them. You could also post in neighboring community groups as well.

  3. Print flyers and take them to local businesses

  4. Invite the youth to invite their friends from school
